 Now more than ever, in the wake of the oil spill, we need to preserve our Louisiana culture for the future. Everything we are is tied to our culture. The bayous and the waterways we enjoy have molded us as citizens to appreciate the food of these waters and the wildlife they contain. We are all part of a unique group called Louisianians, and we are unlike any other place in this country. Look around at every festival in the state, and you see the heart of Louisiana; its people.
I want to preserve our culture, for us now, and for the future. I believe that the base of our economy is rooted in our culture, recreation, and tourism. These cultural aspects are what bring people to Louisiana, people from all over the world wanting to experience what life is like here. Bringing the world's attention to Louisiana, and continuing to bring business and industry here, is my number one focus.
The issues facing us in Louisiana are not unlike other parts of the country, we too are working through this economy and holding onto our culture at the same time. It will be my job as Lt. Governor to promote the State to everyone, and to bring attention in Washington to our needs during this crisis as well.
After Katrina, Rita and Gustav, we became even stronger as Louisianians, working that much harder to prove that we could withstand anything that came our way. The effects of the oil spill will be no different. We are a strong, resilient people and will work together to create a better Louisiana.
As your Lt. Governor, the people of Louisiana are my first priority. Creating jobs for our citizens and our children, and maintaining our culture will always be my goal.
